High school 9th graders are invited to a one day hands-on, simulation-based experience where teamwork, leadership, and quick thinking are put to the test.

About the Program

New this summer, the Co-Op Leadership Challenge gives students a chance to step into the shoes of electric cooperative leaders. Through interactive, simulation-based exercises, students will discover how cooperatives tackle real-world challenges while learning to lead with confidence.

Participants will experience:

  • Situational leadership and crisis communication

  • Team coordination and problem-solving under pressure

  • Cooperative values and community-first thinking

  • Time-sensitive decision-making and strategic planning

Eligibility

Students entering ninth grade who attend a school within PEC’s service territory are eligible to apply. Homeschooled students at the equivalent grade level living within PEC’s service territory also qualify.

Requirements

Students interested in participating in the Co-Op Leadership Challenge must complete the online application and submit a short video as part of the selection process.

⚡The 60-Second Power Pitch

Applicants must record and upload a 30–60 second video answering one of the following questions:

  • What does leadership mean to you?

  • Tell us about a time you helped a team succeed.

  • If your community lost power, how would you help others stay calm and work together?

  • What qualities make someone a great leader?

Videos can be recorded using a phone, tablet, or computer and shared by providing a link to your video in the application.

Think of it as your chance to show us how you lead before the challenge even begins.

Letter of Recommendation. Request a recommendation from a teacher, community member, or other adult who knows you well (this person must not be a relative). You will need this letter to upload with your application.

Selection

Applications will be reviewed by PEC staff. Selected students will be notified after the application deadline.
