Youth Tour

For the past two years, the NRECA Youth Tour to Washington D.C. has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While there is still uncertainty around this event, it seems that there is renewed interest and a cooperative determination to make the Youth Tour happen this year. The commitment remains to inspire our next generation of leaders. Since 1964, more than 50,000 young Americans have taken advantage of this special opportunity offered by their electric cooperative. PEC alone has sent 101 students since 1964.

This summer Youth Tour delegates will represent electric co-ops from across the county in Washington D.C. during the week of June 17 through 23. They will learn about the cooperative business model and a full week of sightseeing.

The thrill packed days typically include a visit with the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation, tour of Mount Vernon, a boat trip on the Potomac River, and all the major monuments. Without a doubt, Youth Tour has grown into an invaluable program that gives young Americans an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Best of all, Youth Tour is an all-expenses paid trip! Watch a great video here!

COVID-19 Protocols – 2022 Oklahoma Youth Tour participants will be expected to observe protocols as required by travel and hotel agencies and/or venues visited while on the trip AND provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 72 hours of registration (June 17, 2022).

Written Test

PEC selects the winners from students who take a written test over material about rural electrification. Local high schools are given the opportunity to participate as a host testing site or students can also plan to register to take the test at PEC’s headquarters located at 1600 North Country Club Road in Ada.

  • The final testing date will happen on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 9 a.m.
  • Students must be registered by noon, Friday, February 25, 2022.
  • Register for the test at PEC’s headquarters.

Important Safety Guidelines During Testing

Everyone’s safety throughout this experience is of the utmost importance to us; therefore:

  • All PEC staff will abide by any guidelines set forth by participating schools while administering the test at all locations.

At the conclusion of the testing dates, an invitation will be extended to the students receiving the top ten scores on the test in order to compete in an interview competition. The top ten students participate in final judging at PEC’s headquarters in Ada. A panel of judges will select the winning delegates based on the students’ subject knowledge, originality, appearance, and personality.
