Contact Us if You Are Thinking About Installing a DG System
As cooler weather settles in and we look toward fall projects, some homeowners may be considering rooftop solar as a way to go green and save on energy costs. At People’s Electric Cooperative (PEC), we’re proud to support renewable energy, but we also want to ensure our members are informed before making such an important investment. Just like raking leaves or winterizing your home, a little preparation now can save you from bigger headaches later.
Do Your Research Before You Commit
Is your contractor credible?
Ask for proof of licensing, permitting, and credentials. Don’t hesitate to check company reviews and the contractor’s standing with the Better Business Bureau. Taking time up front can prevent costly mistakes down the road. 133302302
Does the contract add up?
Read the fine print carefully. Do the performance promises seem realistic? Is the timeline reasonable? Don’t be afraid to negotiate terms so the project fits your goals.
Who maintains the system?
Responsibility often depends on ownership. If you lease the panels, the installer may handle upkeep. If you own them, you’ll need to plan for cleaning and potential part replacements—since dirt, debris, or wear can reduce efficiency over time.
Partner With PEC Before You Install
For some homeowners, solar can be a great fit—but it’s not one-size-fits-all. Since consumer-side generation can push energy back onto PEC’s system, it’s important to contact us before you install. PEC will review your application, ensure documents are in order, and schedule the required inspection before any interconnection.
