Recognizing the Dedication & Service of People's Electric Cooperative's (PEC) Lineworkers on Lineworker Appreciation Day
Each April, electric cooperatives across the country pause to recognize the dedicated men and women who work behind the scenes to keep power flowing to our homes and businesses. When storms roll through our communities, and outages occur, many people experience the inconvenience—but lineworkers see a call to action. PEC crews are ready when it matters most, often leaving family dinners, working through the night, and heading into challenging conditions to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. That readiness comes from rigorous training, experience, and a deep commitment to serving others.
What makes lineworkers especially remarkable is that they aren’t just restoring power to a system—they’re restoring power to their own communities. They live here, raise their families here, and understand that electricity is essential to everyday life for homes, businesses, schools, farms, and emergency services.
“Our lineworkers see firsthand what it truly takes to keep the lights on for our members,” said PEC Executive Vice-President and CEO Kevin Wood. “Their dedication, training, and commitment to serving their communities are what make our cooperative strong.”
Electric cooperatives like PEC were built on the principle of neighbors helping neighbors, and lineworkers embody that spirit every day. They are often the first to respond and the last to leave, working long hours behind the scenes to restore service.
At times, serving our neighbors also means helping other cooperatives through mutual aid. During major outage events, PEC crews may assist neighboring co-ops — sometimes close to home and sometimes across state lines—to help restore power.
Linework is demanding, physical, and sometimes dangerous, and PEC crews approach every job with a focus on safety and teamwork while taking pride in serving their communities.
While Lineworker Appreciation Day is celebrated each April, PEC is grateful for the dedication and commitment of its lineworkers year-round.
